College, success, and the self

Doing stuff like school, business, and other day-to-day activities might put reality into the hindsight at times. What I mean is that life is more than our career goals, résumés, and other things that the world tells us are important to achieve what the world calls success. Don’t get me wrong, those things are great, but not nearly as great as the beautiful, natural world. I think that success is extremely relative to the point that success is truly different for each person. Therefore, what one person thinks is success will always be different from someone else’s view of success. Some value money, some value religion, others value freedom… the list goes on, and most people have a large set of diverse values; their careers, their families, and anything else. To me, success is happiness and only happiness; being content. A person must figure out what their vision of success is, and then reflect on where they see them selves at their current state. Compare your definition of “success” with your current state, and then figure out the steps you want to take to get to where you want to be. College has broadened and changed me in ways that I cannot describe. College consists of interactions with hundreds of new people from hugely varying backgrounds, mindsets, and cultures. The people, groups, institutions with which we interact with make us who we are to a certain extent, in addition to our individual feelings, realizations, and non-tangible discoveries. But the outside and inside influences affect the way we are influenced, continuously changing the way we process information and experiences. I am thankful for the situations and opportunities that have allowed me to enjoy the world in the way that I do.
